The Western Star 49X is a truck in American Truck Simulator manufactured by the American truck manufacturer Western Star Trucks.

It is the first truck in the history of American Truck Simulator to be added to the game within a day after its real-life release. It was added to the game on September 30, 2020, along with the 1.38 update.

Release History

• 10 September 2020: SCS Software officially announced that the NEXT Western Star truck will arrive very shortly after its real-life release.
• 29 September 2020:
  • 16:46 UTC: SCS Software shared a screenshot in their social medias confirming the addition of the Western Star manufacturing plant in Portland, Oregon.
  • 21:00 UTC: Western Star officially reveals their new truck, the Western Star 49X.
• 30 September 2020:
  • 08:54 UTC: SCS shows a preview of the Western Star 49X on their Twitch channel and Steam page.
  • 16:10 UTC: Western Star 49X is released along with a trailer video.
• 21 December 2020: During the SCS Christmas Stream, the Sleeper cabins of the 49X were shown and it was confirmed that they will come out in early 2021.
• 2 February 2021: During the 5th Anniversary Stream of American Truck Simulator, is briefly shown the 49X Sleeper cabin.
• 3 February 2021: SCS announced on their social medias that on 4 February 2021, will have a Special Western Star 49X Stream.
• 4 February 2021:
  • 17:00 UTC: It is confirmed during the Special Western Star 49X Stream, that the 1.40 update will bring the Sleeper Cabin options for 49X, new customization options, 36 new chassis options, plus the addition of the SBA version.
  • 18:30 UTC: 1.40 update Open Beta is released.
• 5 February 2021: Blog post about Western Star® 49X Update.
• 23 March 2021: 1.40 update is released.
• 1 June 2023: SCS teases Partnership with Western Star that brings "an elevated heavy hauling experience.
• 8 June 2023: SCS announces the 'Power Hood' customization option for the 49X.
• 21 June 2023: SCS releases the 'Power Hood' option for the 49X in Update 1.47.
• 15 May 2024: SCS releases a new exhaust option for the 49X in Update 1.50.
