Function	Truckers can trigger a special in-game "cutscene" with a short showcase of a near location or place of interest

Viewpoints (also known as Sightseeing Spots) are locations where the driver can trigger an in-game “cutscene” that showcases the nearest point of interest to the player. They are identified by a green, 3D film-camera icon and marked with a on the map. There are a total of 113 viewpoints in American Truck Simulator and 73 viewpoints in Euro Truck Simulator 2 at this moment.

When approaching and stopping at a viewpoint, the player has to turn off their trucks. The player then hits 'ENTER' in order to activate the viewpoint. When the cutscene is playing, the player can press 'ESCAPE' or watch the cutscene. The player can play the cutscene again.

As of update 1.46, viewpoints are available to watch anytime through the gallery.

History

American Truck Simulator

Viewpoints in American Truck Simulator were first featured in the Idaho map expansion. The icon for the viewpoint was first designed as a cogwheel, which looked like this: . 10 viewpoints were added to the Idaho map expansion.

In update 1.39, more viewpoints were added in the Washington, and Utah map expansions, and the icon marked on the map, was changed to a camera. 20 more viewpoints (10 in Washington, 10 in Utah) were added to the game.

The release of the Colorado map expansion on the 12th of November, 2020, featured 10 new viewpoints.

In update 1.40, more viewpoints were added in the New Mexico and Oregon map expansions. 20 more viewpoints (10 in New Mexico, 10 in Oregon) were added to the game.

The release of the Wyoming map expansion on the 7th of September, 2021, featured 10 new viewpoints.

The release of the Montana map expansion on the 4th of August, 2022, featured 10 new viewpoints.

In update 1.46, more viewpoints were added in California and the Montana map expansion. 3 more viewpoints (2 in California, 1 in Montana) were added to the game.

The release of the Texas map expansion on the 15th of November, 2022, featured 30 new viewpoints.

The release of the Oklahoma map expansion on the 1st of August, 2023, featured 10 new viewpoints.

The release of the Kansas map expansion on the 30th of November, 2023, featured 10 new viewpoints, 2 of which are hidden.

In update 1.50, more viewpoints were added in California. 3 more viewpoints (2 of which are hidden) were added to the game.

The release of the Nebraska map expansion on the 16th of May, 2024, featured 9 new viewpoints, 1 of which is hidden.

The upcoming Arkansas map expansion will be featuring 10 new viewpoints.

Euro Truck Simulator 2

Viewpoints in Euro Truck Simulator 2 were first featured in update 1.40, alongside the Iberia map expansion. The icon for the viewpoint has the purple camera, the same icon design as that was used in American Truck Simulator since update 1.39. 15 viewpoints (5 in Portugal, 10 in Spain) were added to the Iberia map expansion.

In update 1.43, more viewpoints were added across the Euro Truck Simulator 2 map expansions that had already been released (Vive la France !, Italia, Beyond the Baltic Sea and Road to the Black Sea). 35 more viewpoints (8 in Vive la France !, 7 in Italia, 10 in Beyond the Baltic Sea, 10 in Road to the Black Sea) were added to the game.

In update 1.44, 5 more viewpoints were added along with the completely reworked Austria in the base game.

In update 1.45, a more viewpoint was added along with the completely reworked German city of Hannover in the base game.

In update 1.46, More viewpoints were added in the Scandinavia map expansion and in the base game. 4 more viewpoints (3 in Scandinavia, 1 in base game) were added to the game.

In update 1.47, 3 more viewpoints were added along with the completely reworked German cities of Stuttgart, Nürnberg, and Frankfurt am Main in the base game.

In update 1.48, a more viewpoint was added along with the completely reworked German city of Rostock in the base game.

The release of the West Balkans map expansion on the 19th of October, 2023, featured 15 new viewpoints.

In update 1.50, 6 more viewpoints (2 of which are hidden) were added along with the complete rework of Switzerland and Germany's Rhine-Rhur region in the base game.

In update 1.51, a more viewpoint was added along with the completely reworked German city of Kassel in the base game.
