To all the Truck Simulator Wiki contributors and readers,
Before I go further into what this is all about, I just want to say a happy new year to everyone in this "special" blog. 2022 has been a busy year for the Truck Simulator Wiki, and I think we have done a job well done further expanding the wiki. Let’s also hope 2023 will be a great year for all of us!
First, SCS Software has reached many milestones over 2022, but I’ll mention the most important ones since there has been more than ten milestones reached on that year. Recently, Euro Truck Simulator 2 at this moment, is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and SCS Software just celebrated their 25th anniversary on November 21st, 2022.
Of course, time flies by, and most of the time, we always think it will take a long time before some special day occurs, until we realize, we’re almost at that point, and we really look forward for that moment to finally happen. 2023 will receive more milestones from SCS Software, and in the future, more of them with be achieved. But today, this year has reached its first milestone of the year in terms of stuff related to Truck Simulator, 18 Wheels of Steel, and, of course, Fandom. Now, without further of do, ladies and gentlemen, truck drivers, wiki contributors and readers, here comes the "biggest" announcement this wiki has ever had... so far. It’s time to kick things off to start the year, because…
You probably didn’t expect this to happen, or you have never thought about how old the Truck Simulator Wiki was. Well guess what, now you do! Prior to this exact day, I have been thinking that this would be a great time for me to announce this milestone in the Fandom community, to gather around and celebrate a Fandom wiki that has been in the process of growing for exactly 10 years now. Let’s go back in time and look at what the Truck Simulator Wiki was like 10 years ago and further beyond.
On this day, January 4th, in 2013, User:TheGreatFoo created what was formally called the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Wiki. Pages such as Radio Stations, Mods, and Skills were one of the first ever articles to be created, while other articles were created by unregistered users to help collaborate. Unfortunately, TheGreatFoo did not continue to expand the ETS2 Wiki after his last contribution on June 16th, 2013, but the good news was that TheGreatFoo was not the only user to expand the wiki. Although there have been more unregistered users collaborating to expand the ETS2 Wiki, a few signed-in users were able to help also.
Here's something you might have not known ever since: If you have ever noticed that all images include "euro_truck_simulator_2" in its link (like this one for example), that’s possibly why all images have ETS2 in their links - The Truck Simulator Wiki was first titled "Euro Truck Simulator 2 Wiki". Not only that, but there’s also even a redirect page for Euro Truck Simulator 2 Wiki before the name of the wiki was changed to Truck Simulator Wiki on February 6th, 2016, after American Truck Simulator was released four days ago. If you're also curious to find out what the original Truck Simulator Wiki logo used to look like, you can look at its file history in the logo's image details, and you can pretty much tell that the first revision of the logos is old, over 6 years since the wordmark was changed to "Truck Simulator Wiki".
Prior to the move, the main page was also a high traffic page for excessive vandalism, and this has been since the wiki was first created. So, on January 27th, 2016, the protection of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Wiki main page was finally set for only administrators to edit the main page, indefinitely protecting that page from getting vandalized before our visitors see the mess they weren't expecting to see. After January 27th on that same year, visitors are now expected to see a clean, welcoming entrance to the Truck Simulator Wiki.
After 10 years collaborating to expand the Truck Simulator Wiki, with at least 3,000 pages created as of January 2023, we, as a community, should thank User:TheGreatFoo as the founder of the Truck Simulator Wiki for creating the wiki, the others who formerly helped to collaborate throughout the TS Wiki's first years of creation, our former administrators and bureaucrats for keeping the wiki protected and the help they provided, our former wiki representatives, the Fandom staff, and everyone else who still continue to help collaborate! Working to expand a wiki about a popular simulation video game, like Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, is hard, and we couldn’t have reached this far without the help from our collaborators. Without it, our wiki would have been smaller than now. But from there to now, our wiki grew bigger while new content was being released in both ETS2 and ATS, and the chance to add content from already-released SCS trucking games, including the 18 Wheels of Steel series, and the other Truck Simulation games (Euro Truck Simulator, German Truck Simulator, Trucks & Trailers, Scania Truck Driving Simulator, and more).
Also, I forgot to mention - Don't forget to keep an eye on our news tab in our main page, because we have something else in the works related to this wiki, and it's nothing related to SCS' games. More details will be revealed once nearly completed soon. ;)
Once again, thank you everyone, for taking the chance to collaborate and expand the Truck Simulator Wiki to grow bigger over its past years! I hope you can join us in celebrating this momentous occasion, and I can't wait for this wiki to keep on growing in the future!
