Dear Truck Simulator Wiki contributors,
It is an honor to know that Texas (as you have known since yesterday) is releasing on November 15th, 2022, which as of me writing this user blog, we have 9 days until release. This gives the Truck Simulator Wiki an opportunity to expand and grow for more articles to be added and expanded, and that is the biggest news I have for now.
Now here comes the bad news, but first, let's explain what SCS has faced before Texas was even announced; SCS Software has faced Texas as a "scary" project for the team due to Texas' sheer size as the largest state in the 48-continuous US states, and how long it would take to develop Texas with a scale of 1:20 in ATS. And guess what, after Texas has been under development for almost a year and a half, we should also be scared of Texas. But why should we be "scared"? Below is a list of what we have to create and update in the wiki, although this list may look incomplete, I might have missed some projects I forgot to include in mind, but don't hesitate to let me know.
New projects for the wiki[]
Once the Texas DLC releases on November 15th, this will open up a lot of projects for the Truck Simulator Wiki to work on, and here's a list of what we have to "work on" specifically:
- Updating 29 Texas city-related articles with screenshots, a list of landmarks and facilities, and the roads connecting the city.
- Scenery towns in Texas - I can guarantee that Texas is going to feature the most settlements than any other state in-game.
- Creating (and updating) articles related to roads (Interstates, U.S. Highways, State Highways, vice versa) - Texas will feature a variety of roads, and it will include over hundreds of new roads, which would also create an opportunity to create more articles
- Landmarks - Well... there's thousands in Texas.
- Viewpoints - There's approximately 20 new viewpoints that will be added in the Texas DLC.
- New Photo Trophy feature - Although we have not created an article related to the new photo trophy function, that should wait after Texas is released.
- Achievement-related guides - We do have tens of guides on how to unlock achievements. If there is at least one achievement that seems too "complicated" to unlock, a guide is recommended to create, but that has yet to happen.
- Historical Markers - Similar to the Idaho Highway Historical Marker Program (I believe), Texas will also feature historical markers. There is also an achievement related to that.
By any chance, this list may expand as we find more ideas overtime.
More projects could come[]
Sometimes, we could expect to see some more features coming to the Texas DLC, just like the security check function that was discovered in SCS Software's first Texas DLC gameplay stream.
When should we start these projects?[]
Every time a new map expansion DLC is released, most Truck Simulator Wiki contributors take a break from editing to take the chance to explore the newest map DLC. Sometimes, it takes at least a week until we are ready to gather information and add them to the wiki. Because Texas is the so far biggest map DLC in ATS, it could take more than a week until we are actually ready.
We usually do not put ourselves in a rush to add everything from a newly released map expansion to one big encyclopedia in less than a day, or less than a week. We understand how long it would take to gather everything to the wiki, and projects like that could take a long time.
[]
Together, we will expand the Truck Simulator Wiki once Texas releases, but not at the first day. Let's start with my planned projects, which I will sort by what I will start with my first, and then towards my last Texas-related project.
If you want your projects to be listed here, let me know, and I will add your projects below!
Please note that some contributors listed below might not start at the same time another contributor starts their projects related or partially related to Texas.
