U.S. Route 34 (US 34) is an east-west US Highway located in northern Colorado in American Truck Simulator. It runs from US 40 in Granby to Interstate 76 in Wiggins. There is also a short section of it in Wray that is not marked on the map nor connected to the main section directly. US 34 in real life runs 1122 miles (1806 km) between US 40 near Granby, CO, to Berwyn, IL, a suburb of Chicago.
Course[]
US 34 begins at its intersection with US 40 in Granby, CO. At the western feet of the Northern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, it runs along the shore of what appears in the game to be Lake Granby, which could actually be an amalgamation of Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Lake, as the town of Grand Lake in encountered on the shore.
What follows is Rocky Mountain National Park, which the highway crosses via the Trail Ridge Road, an incredibly scenic route forbidden to commercial vehicles; players can still move cargo over this road, with a $2000 fine being the only penalty. This stretch of the highway begins in the Kawuneeche Valley, at the head of which being the headwaters of the Colorado River. The highway switchbacks out of the valley, with the Never Summer Range to the west, as it climbs above the tree line to the Alpine Visitor Center, which features a rest stop and a viewpoint. Past the visitor center the highway reaches its summit at 12,183 feet; this is the highest point of the US Numbered Highway System, the third-highest paved road in the US, and, if the game is to correct scale in the Y-axis, the highest accessible point on the ATS map. Leaving the mountain tops of the Front Range, the highway winds down to the park's east entrance, and soon after passes through Estes Park. The 34 then runs through the narrow, winding canyon of the Big Thompson River, and leaves the mountains at Loveland, where westbound truckers are warned to avoid the Trail Ridge Road.
At Loveland the highway intersects with Interstate 25, after which it crosses the South Platte River and runs through the plains to Wiggins, where it meets Interstate 76. US 34 east of I-76 isn't mapped, but intersects with US 385 at Wray.
