U.S. Route 26 (US 26) is an east–west US Highway in eastern Oregon, southern Idaho, and central Wyoming in American Truck Simulator. The highway in ATS runs in segments from Mount Vernon, OR, to Dwyer Junction, WY. In real life, US 26 runs 1485 miles (2390 km) from US 101 near Astoria, OR, to Interstate 80 at Ogallala, NE.
Course[]
The route of US 26 in the game is separated into six sections. The first section runs concurrent with US 395 from Mount Vernon to John Day. The second section runs from US 20 and Can-Ada Road in Nampa to Interstate 84, US 20, US 30, and SH-51 in Mountain Home. The third section runs within Shoshone. The fourth section runs from US 20 and US 93 in Carey to US 20 west of Idaho Falls. The fifth section runs from Interstate 15 and US 20 to Yellowstone Avenue within Idaho Falls. The entirety of the first four of these segments run concurrent with other highways.
The sixth section begins at Holmes Avenue in Idaho Falls, and upon leaving town follows the Snake River along the Palisades Reservoir. After entering Wyoming, the highway begins running concurrent with US 89 at Alpine Junction. After running north for a ways, US 191 joins the concurrency at Hoback Junction, and soon after, the highways pass through Jackson and the valley of Jackson Hole. At Moran, US 26 breaks to the east, at the same time beginning a concurrency with US 287. Here the highway enters the scenic Bridger-Teton National Forest and begins crossing the Absaroka Mountains via Togwotee Pass. Near the summit of the pass (9655 ft/2943 m), at the Great Continental Divide, an unmarked dirt road offers access to Wind River Lake, a scenic alpine lake surrounded by jagged mountains. Descending the mountains along a section of highway under construction, the highway soon enters the Wind River Basin, where the 26 runs along the eponymous river as it passes below colorful cliffs. After passing Crowheart Butte and crossing Bull Lake Creek, a rest area that offers a view of the Wind River Range is provided; the Wind Rivers feature Gannett Peak, which, at 13,082 ft (4207 m), is the highest point in Wyoming. Soon after this point, US 287 breaks away to the southeast while the 26 continues to Riverton. Out of Riverton, the highway heads northeast to the Boysen Reservoir and Shoshoni, where it begins running concurrent with US 20. The 26 remains with the 20 through Casper, where the highways begin a concurrency with Interstate 25. While the 20 breaks away at Orin, the 26 continues with I-25 to Dwyer Junction, where it currently terminates at a rest area. Here US 26 awaits extension into Nebraska via the course of the Oregon Trail and the North Platte River.
