San Rafael is an inaccessible scenery town and former city in California featured in the base game of American Truck Simulator. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, at the junction of Interstate 580 and US 101 northwest of San Francisco.
San Rafael was removed as a city and replaced by a scenery town in the same location in update 1.44 as part of the second phase of the California rework. It was the second city to be removed from the game's economy since its initial release after Hornbrook was removed (replaced by Hilt) as part of the first phase of the California reskin in update 1.41.

History[]
- In the initial version of American Truck Simulator, San Rafael was a city and split in three parts. The western part was accessed by two at-grade four-way junctions on US 101 and featured a Bitumen depot, a Plaster & Sons depot, a motel, and a recruitment agency. The eastern part was accessed by two diamond interchanges on Interstate 580 and by SR 37 and featured a Bitumen roadworks, a Sunshine Crops farm, a Darchelle Uzau vineyard in Napa Valley, a Gallon Oil gas station, and a service shop. The third part was accessed by a diamond interchange on Interstate 580 in Richmond and featured a Gallon Oil refinery and an HMS Machinery depot. US 101 turned to the southeast between the eastern and the western parts and terminated at the northern of the two diamond interchanges, from which Interstate 580 continued to the southeast. The west terminus of SR 37 was located at said interchange. The landmark of San Rafael was the famous wine region Napa Valley, where one could see a lot of vine growing and the Napa Valley Vine Train.
- In update 1.3, a trumpet interchange of Interstate 580 and US 101 was added.
- In update 1.5, as part of the 1:35 to 1:20 map rescale, the two at-grade four-way junctions of US 101 in the western part of San Rafael were removed and the southern one was replaced by a diamond interchange.
- In update 1.44, as part of the second phase of the California rework, San Rafael was completely reworked and all companies and features were removed as the city was replaced by an inaccessible scenery town in the same location. The trumpet interchange of Interstate 580 and US 101 was modified to a half-trumpet interchange, and all other junctions were removed. The western terminus of SR 37 was also moved to the added scenery town of Novato, which is also inaccessible.
