Interstate 90 (I-90) is an east–west Interstate Highway in central Washington, northern Idaho, southwestern Montana, and northeastern Wyoming in American Truck Simulator. It runs from Interstate 5 in Seattle to US 14 and US 16 in Moorcroft. The highway also continues to Boston, Massachusetts in older games and in real life.
In real life, Interstate 90 runs from Seattle to Boston. It is the longest Interstate Highway in the United States and the ninth longest in the world. The speed limit ranges from 60-65 mph in urban areas and up to 80 mph in the extremely rural states of Montana (for cars) and Wyoming, though it is as low as 40 mph near the west end of the freeway.
Course[]
Interstate 90 begins at its junction with Interstate 5 in Seattle, WA, and starts its transcontinental run by passing below the neighborhoods of Judkins Park and Mt. Baker through the Mt. Baker Tunnel, and proceeds over Lake Washington via the Homer M Hadley and Lacey V Murrow Memorial Bridges, which offer an excellent view of Mt. Rainier, the highest point of Washington and one of the most prominent mountains in the US. These bridges are notable for being floating bridges, meaning they are supported by floating pontoons instead of anchored supports; at over a mile in length, these are among the longest floating bridges in the world. After crossing Lake Washington, the highway passes to the south of Bellevue, where it intersects with Interstate 405, which provides access to Renton. The highway then crosses the Cascade Mountains via Snoqualmie Pass; although this pass isn't especially high, it's rather scenic, as a large gap separates the east and westbound lanes (the latter supported by a long viaduct), and in this gap is the forked Franklin Falls. East of the pass are east and westbound weigh stations, followed by rest areas and the town of Ellensburg, where US 97 intersects with the highway. Shortly east of Ellensburg is the intersection with Interstate 82 at its western terminus, and after passing below a high abandoned rail bridge it descends into the gorge of the Columbia. The highway crosses the Columbia River via the Vantage Bridge, and after a hard turn to the north climbs out of the gorge; near the top of this grade are east and westbound overlooks, the latter featuring a viewpoint. The highway then proceeds across the plains of the Columbia Plateau, which features east and westbound rest areas and the town of Moses Lake. At Ritzville the highway meets with US 395, which begins a concurrency here. The highway trends northeast past Sprague Lake to US 2, which runs concurrent with the highway for a short distance. After crossing high over Latah Creek, I-90 enters Spokane, where US 2 and 395 break away. After entering Idaho a westbound weigh station is passed, and the highway crosses through Coeur d'Alene.
I-90 soon after crosses the Bitterroot Range via Lookout Pass (4710 ft/1436 m), where the highway enters Montana; at the summit of the pass is a rest area and the western end of a challenging hidden road leading to Thompson Falls. On the descent from the pass, a weigh station/rest area is located in the median of the highway, and shortly afterwards the highway passes the town of Haugan, where services are offered at the 50,000 Silver Dollar Inn. At St. Regis the 90 intersects with MT 135, which provides access to MT 200 and Thompson Falls, and soon after intersects with US 93 at Wye. The 90 then passes the city of Missoula, where it intersects with US 12, and runs along the Clark Fork River to Bonner-West Riverside and a short spur of MT 200. After following the Clark Fork through gorges deep in the mountains, the highway heads south across the Deer Lodge Valley, between the Flint Creek Range to the west and the Boulder Mountains to the east, and shortly after begins running concurrent with I-15. After passing the town of Rocker and its multiple truck stops, and a WB weigh station, the highway passes the city of Butte. I-15 then separates from the 90, which then climbs up the Boulders to Homestake Pass, where the highway passes between the Boulders to the north and the Highlands to the south, and over the Great Continental Divide; at 6329 feet (1929 m), this is the highest point on I-90. After descending from the pass, the highway crosses the Madison River north of the town of Three Forks; to the north of the highway at this point is the headwaters of the Missouri River, formed by the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers, although I-90 only crosses the Madison in the game. Shortly afterwards, in the shadow of the Bridger Range to the north, the highway passes the city of Bozeman, where it intersects with US 191. East of Bozeman, the 90 passes between the Bridgers to the north and the Gallatins to the south via Bozeman Pass (5702 ft/1738 m) and intersects with US 89. The 90 then runs along the Yellowstone River, north of the Absaroka Range; the valley of the Yellowstone features landmarks such as Sheep Mountain, the Greycliff Mill (the Montana Mill in the game), and the Crazy Mountains, as well as east and westbound rest areas. At Laurel the highway intersects with US 310, and after east and westbound weigh stations/rest areas, Billings, the largest city in Montana, is reached, and it's here where US 87 begins running concurrent with I-90. Just east of Billings, at the town of Lockwood, I-90 continues via a TOTSO at its junction with I-94. After passing through Forsyth, the 90 then veers southward across the Crow Nation and the town of Crow Agency, and heads towards Wyoming with the Bighorn Mountains to the west.
After entering Wyoming, I-90 meets US 14, which begins running concurrent with the highway. After passing the Sheridan Port of Entry, the city of Sheridan is reached, where the 14 ends its concurrency. Just out of Sheridan the 90 meets I-25 at its northern end, and it's here where US 87 ends its concurrency with the 90 and begins following the 25. Here the 90 resumes its eastward course, and sets across the Powder River Basin to the city of Gillette, where the highway intersects with WY 59, and where US 14 once again joins the Interstate. Not far east of Gillette, the highway reaches Moorcroft, where the 14 breaks away to the north and I-90 currently ends, to eventually be extended into South Dakota.
