Interstate 70 (I-70) is an east–west Interstate Highway in central Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri in American Truck Simulator. It runs from Interstate 15 near Cove Fort to Interstate 35 in Kansas City. In real-life it ends in the western limits of Baltimore, Maryland, having run a length of 2,151 miles (3,462 km).
Course[]
Interstate 70 starts at its junction with Interstate 15 at Cove Fort, and begins with a climb up to Clear Creek Summit (7,180 ft), between the Pahvant Range to the north and the Tushar Mountains to the south. Past the summit the highway intersects with US 89, which here begins a concurrency with the highway as it runs through the valley of the Sevier, past the town of Richfield. At Salina the 89 breaks away, and US 50 in turn begins a concurrency. Salina is notable in real life for offering the last services for eastbound travelers before Green River, a gap of 110 miles (177 km), the longest stretch of Interstate Highway without services. In the game this gap is even longer, the eastern end being Crescent Junction; although there are many service gaps in the game, with some being even longer, this gap is acknowledged with a warning in Salina. The highway begins this lonely stretch by winding between the Wasatch Plateau to the north and the Sevier Plateau to the south through the canyon of Salina Creek, where it enters the Colorado Plateau. Immediately out of the canyon the highway enters the San Rafael Swell, a large geologic dome known for its many canyons and rock formations, all of which appear in vibrant colors. This section of the road is notable for having been constructed along a route through which there had been no paved road, and is considered one of the wonders of the Interstate Highway System. Near the eastern end of the swell are east and westbound rest areas, the eastbound rest area featuring an overlook of what follows. Past the rest areas, the highway plunges down a winding grade to leave the swell through the San Rafael Reef, a massive red monocline resembling enormous, jagged teeth; this is one of the most stunning features of the highway in the game, as well as real life. After leaving the swell the 70 intersects US 6 and 191, both highways beginning concurrencies here. The highway runs along the railroad and the Book Cliffs to the north, through the colorful desert to Crescent Junction, where the 191 breaks away, heading south to Moab.
Not far east of Crescent Junction, I-70 enters Colorado, and is welcomed with east and westbound weigh stations and a junction with CO 139. Soon afterward the highway enters the Grand Valley and reaches Fruita, which offers travel services, and just afterward passes through Grand Junction, where US 50 breaks away and the highway begins running along the Colorado River. After passing below Mt. Garfield, the highway leaves the Grand Valley and runs through De Beque Canyon, a scenic stretch of road that features a rest stop at Beavertail Mountain, a promontory the highway passes through via tunnels. Out of the canyon, the highway runs through a valley north of the Grand Mesa and encounters Glenwood Springs, a scenic town that features a gas station. What follows is the highway's run through Glenwood Canyon, another engineering marvel of the highway. In this narrow, deep gorge of banded red sandstone, the westbound lanes of the highway are elevated over the eastbound lanes, and the highway crosses through the Hanging Lake Tunnel, with the westbound lanes having an additional tunnel; all the while, this narrow space is shared with the railroad. Just west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel is a rest area that is only accessible from the eastbound lanes, which features an informational plaque and a viewpoint. Out of the canyon, the highway breaks from the Colorado and runs along the Eagle River for a short distance, breaking away at the highway's intersection with US 24. Here the highway begins a steep, long climb up the Front Range of the Rockies; the westbound lanes here have a runaway ramp and a speed limit of 30 mph. At the top of the grade the highway reaches Eisenhower Tunnel, which, at an elevation of 11,158 feet, is the highest point of the Interstate Highway System; this tunnel, yet another wonder of engineering, is where the highway crosses the Great Continental Divide, and offers another viewpoint at the west end of the tunnel. After reaching this summit, the highway moves down another steep, long grade, soon intersecting with US 40. At the bottom of this grade is a junction with Interstate 76, where US 6 breaks with the 70 and runs concurrent with the 76. Shortly afterwards the highway reaches Denver, the capital and largest city of Colorado, and Interstate 25, which it meets at an interchange known as the Mousetrap. The highway leaves Denver through Aurora, and begins its long run through the Great Plains. The 70 intersects with US 287 at Limon, which features travel services and east and westbound weigh stations. After a run through this sea of grass, the highway passes Burlington before going into Kansas.
Not far past the Colorado-Kansas state line, I-70 goes by Colby. After passing Colby, it starts to move southeast, going past Oakely, where it starts a concurrency with US 40. More trees and forests appear along the route when it goes further east. It then starts to go directly east and passes Hays. After a while, it reaches Salina, where it meets I-135 which runs south from I-70. The highway starts to head northeast and passes by Junction City. It soon after starts going directly east again, and heads into Topeka, the state capital. On the west and east sides of the city, I-70 intersects I-470. On the west interchange, US 75 starts a concurrency with I-70 and gets off at the next exit. K-4 also starts a concurrency around the area. On the east interchange, the Kansas Turnpike starts running along with I-70. The concurrency with US 40 and K-4 ends around this area. The highway keeps going east until reaching Kansas City. The Kansas Turnpike ends just before an interchange with I-635, and US 24, US 40 and US 169 start concurrencies around this interchange. I-70 then passes into Missouri shortly after, where it goes into Kansas City, Missouri, and ends at an interchange with I-35 near the state line.

The route passes under the interstate with no interchange, then loops around and ends at exit 363 on I-70.
Burlington[]
Interstate 70 Business Loop in Burlington begins at exit 436 and follows US 385 into the city. The route turns right and follows Rose Avenue (US 24 and US 385) to the east and ends at 8th Street (US 385).
Achievements[]
- The achievement Cruising High Below requires the player to drive through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel in both directions. It is located on Interstate 70 west of Denver, between the US 24 and US 40 junctions.
History[]
- In the initial version of the Utah map expansion DLC, the section of Interstate 70 from Interstate 15 near Cove Fort to US 6, US 50, and US 191 in Crescent Junction was added.
- In the initial version of the Colorado map expansion DLC, the section of Interstate 70 from US 6, US 50, and US 191 in Crescent Junction to US 385 in Burlington was added.
