Driving Academy

Driving Academy is a game module featured in Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.

The module was firstly announced via a blog post on the 22nd September, 2024, then it got released on the 16th October, 2024, along with update 1.52.

Gameplay[]

At this moment, there are two gameplays in this module. But as it progress, this game module can be expanded in the future.

Truck Driving Basics[]

Learn the basics of driving a truck, from basic functions and controls to manouvering with a trailer. This gameplay has four chapters with many challenges.

ETS2 and ATS[]

  • Chapter 1: Basic Controls and Movement - Learn basic vehicle controls and how to move the truck in forward and reverse.
    • Before You Drive - Basics about the truck cabin.
    • Camera Controls - Variety of cameras available to help to control and manoeuvre the truck.
    • First Drive - Preparation for the first drive of the truck.
    • Reversing - First reversed drive of the truck, as well as the utilisation of the mirrors.
    • Lights and Wipers - Basic control of the truck, such as lightings and wipers.
  • Chapter 2: Basic Manoeuvres - Learn to drive, manoeuvre and park with a tractor unit. Explore the purpose of each type of mirror and how to use it.
    • Parking Next to an Obstacle - Learn how to park next to a kerb by utilising the side mirror.
    • Slalom Between the Corners - Learn how to manoeuvre the truck around some traffic cones with the help of mirrorws.
    • Combined Driving Manoeuvres - Combined the skills the players learnt to negotiate a short, yet technical course, that will involve a reverse into a turn and managing a tight 90 degree corner.
    • Reverse Parking Next to an Obstacle - Learn how to reverse the truck into a parking spot next to a kerb.
    • Parallel Parking - Learn how to do a parallel parking between two other trucks.
    • Advanced Training Course - A drive on an advanced training course to test the player's skills.
  • Chapter 3: Manoeuvring with a Trailer - Learn to connect and manoeuvre with a trailer through different situations.
    • Connecting a Trailer - Basics of (dis)connecting a truck to/from a trailer.
    • Braking with a Trailer - Get a feel of driving and braking a truck with a trailer attached.
    • Parking in a Narrow Space - Manoeuvre and park a trailer inline with an offset parking spot.
    • Diagonal Parking - Park on a diagonal parking spot on a busy lot. There is not a lot of room, so the players have to be very accurate and deliberate in their driving.
    • Advanced Training Course - Trailer - A drive with a trailer on an advanced training course to test the player's skills.
  • Chapter 4: Reversing with a Trailer - Learn new manoeuvres to effectivelly reverse and park with a trailer.
    • Reversing with a Trailer - Reversing with a trailer for the first time. It is simple, but it needs the corrective steering to put it into the correct position
    • Reversing into a Turn - Reversing with a trailer into a turn for the first time. Explore the basic principles of reversing and what to watch for when turning in reverse.
    • Offset Reversing Manoeuvre - Reversing into a not so direct parking lot behind it. There is a limited room for manoeuvre, challenging the players to use the space wisely.
    • Parallel Parking with a Trailer - Learn how to do a parallel parking with a trailer attached.
    • Diagonal Parking in Reverse - Park diagonally while reversing.
    • Blind side Reversing - Look at 'blind side' reversing the truck into a parking spot by just relying on the mirrors.
    • Manoeuvring in a Tight Space - Turn the truck aound in a tight space, requiring to reverse into the blind side in an area with limited room to manoeuvre. It requires attention to the surroundings and a smart use of space.
  • Chapter 5: Final Exam - Demonstrate your knowledge and skill to prove your worth as a trucker!
    • Final Exam (Part 1) - Test of every skills learnt from the previous scenarios
    • Final Exam (Part 2) - Test of every parking skills learnt from the previous scenarios

ETS2-specific[]

  • Chapter 2: Basic Manoeuvres - Learn to drive, manoeuvre and park with a tractor unit. Explore the purpose of each type of mirror and how to use it.
    • Stopping Close to an Obstacle - Learn about the mirrors, its location and how to utilise it.
    • Driving on a Handling Track - Test your ability to handle the truck through different kind of curves and corners, by driving the truck on the dedicated track.
  • Chapter 3: Manoeuvring with a Trailer - Learn to connect and manoeuvre with a trailer through different situations.
    • Driving on a Roundabout - Learn how to negotiate a roundabout by paying special attention to the trailer, as it'll be tracking differently.
    • Driving Through Simple Turns - A short drive through a training course to help manoeuvre the trailer around the simple 90 degree corners.
    • Driving Through Complex Turns - A short drive through a short obstacle with more complex turns.
  • Chapter 4: Reversing with a Trailer - Learn new manoeuvres to effectivelly reverse and park with a trailer.
    • Reverse Parking in a Tight Lot - Reversing the trailer into a parking spot in a busy lot.

    • Driving on a Road Course - Manoeuvring a trailer through a short but complex obstacle courses.
  • Chapter 4: Reversing with a Trailer - Learn new manoeuvres to effectivelly reverse and park with a trailer.
    • Alley Parking Manoeuvre - Reversing the trailer into an alley off of a small roadway.
    • Reversing From a 45 Degree Set-Up - Reversing on a 45 degree set-up

Truck Driving Proficiency[]

Hone your truck driving skills with new scenarios in more challenging conditions. This module comes as part of update 1.55 and is equipped with the new reward system and additional conditions to complete to unlock the stars and the rewards. Unlike the basics, this module has no pre-recorded video tutorials to test the players' knowledge from the first module.

Trucks[]

Trucks in the Driving Academy have a slight difference from those ownable ones in the main career mode, such as the usage of standard mirror, instead of camera mirrors for some trucks, engine with maximum output at 530 hp, a specific chassis for the some American trucks, usage of standard mudflaps instead of aerokit mudflaps, usage of front and side mirror for American trucks.

For every owners of the Steam version of either games, the Steam Achievement for this module is available and can be unlocked by finishing some specific requirements shown in the table below. More achievements are set to be available with update 1.55.

Rewards[]

Rewards for the Driving Academy was been introduced with update 1.54. These rewards are available as part of the base game for the players who will be completing/had completed the entire first module of Driving Academy.
