It is the first truck in the history of Euro Truck Simulator 2 to be added to the game within a day after its real-life release. The XG and XG+ models were added to the game on the 10th June, 2021, alongside update 1.40, while the XF model was added on the 14th December, 2021, alongside update 1.43.
On the 17 th September, 2024, alongside update 1.51, not only its in-game name got changed from "2021" to "NGD". It also gets a major rework, including new models and updated textures, new chassis for all cabins, a new paint job combo and sets of new accessories.

26 May 2021: SCS Software teases the next DAF Truck with the camouflaged wrap in a blog post.[2]

5 August 2021: SCS Software announced that it is working in the XF cab for the DAF NGD and promises a release if everything goes according to plan until autumn.[12]

19:00 CEST: The XF cabin, new chassis and accessories for the DAF NGD are released along with a trailer video.[18]
Since the release of the truck, new contents have been added into it for free in the game updates.
17 September 2024: Update 1.51 gets the NGD (XF, XG and XG+) an exterior and interior rework with new models and updated textures, new chassis for all cabins, a new paint job combo and sets of new accessories. A blog post in the exact date announced these additions.[19]
